  1. My service learning has not started. I am going to help out YAYA and the women from the Farm Worker's ministry. On Friday I will spend my first day at the office and really get hands on! I will post again on Friday and share my experience

  2. Well, today I had my meeting with Cristina and Abigail about what exactly I’ll be doing as a VOX volunteer. They were excited to have someone who was more computer literate than the current members. They showed me the official website and myspace and facebook page.

My responsibility is to upload photos, make a calendar for various events going on in the activist community, and basically tweak and update their online resources. Supposedly some of the content hasn’t been updated for two years. LOL. It doesn’t seem like “work’ to me, honestly; I get to use my skills for a good cause (and perhaps refine them and learn more).

  3. This week, I spoke with Denise Diaz from Central Florida Jobs With Justice and set up times to meet with her next week. She also e-mailed me some documents and information to update said documents.

Denise is also having me attend a local union meeting next week as well. I'm really excited for the upcoming week.

  4. This week I did some emailing/calling around trying to find some forever homes for two of our cats. Sadly, some of the women in the shelter are not able to take back their pets and we are forced to place them with a new family. I also contacted a worker at a retirement home who will be able to post our needs when Animal Safehouse gets additional animals.

Btw no luck as of yet with the cats so if you know anyone in need of some cats please send them my way.

  5. This week for Animal Safehouse, I made phone calls (and am currently in the process) of finding a storage facility in the Cocoa Beach area for the organization. We are in need of an air conditioned unit to keep pet supplies, including food, stored. I have been explaining the services Animal Safehouse provides, and I hope I will be able to find a unit with an affordable rate for the organization.

  7. This week for my service learning I was only able to work with The Feminist Agenda Radio. We had a planning meeting on Tuesday for bout two hours. We were able to finalize the schedule for the first show. The show was supposed to air on the following Wednesday. On Wednesday I met up with two of the new host and went over how the show normally starts (switching the computer to the correct user name, what buttons to push, how to work the mics, play music etc.). On Wednesday after our meeting we were unable to air the show due to technical problems with the studio equipment. We have made arrangements and will hopefully be on the air next week. J

  8. I finally heard back from my interview with the New Image Youth Center this week. I got the position! I will be 1 of 5 interns working at the New Image Youth Center. New Image Youth Center works with at risk youth in the Parramore District. Keeping them off the streets and in a safe haven/educational program. I had my first meeting with all of the interns this week. We went through First Aid/CPR Training, child care services protocols, liability, and went over programs and work schedules.
